U.S. – Brazil Defense Industry Dialogue Working Groups Mid-Year Meeting

The U.S. – Brazil Defense Industry Dialogue working groups mid-year meeting took place on June 26, 2018 at the Brazilian Naval War College in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Around 140 representatives from the Brazilian and U.S. Government, defense and aerospace industry participated in the four working group meetings that were created to more deeply focus and engage on concrete results for priority topics: Commercial Partnerships, Binational Cooperation, Space, and Defense Trade Policy. The midyear meeting provided an opportunity for Brazilian and U.S. defense industry and government representatives to maintain momentum at the midyear point between the second and third official DIDs.   

The Commercial Partnership group invited Federal Police Officer Rogério Galloro to speak on significant opportunities in the law enforcement sector. ABIMDE and BUSBC hold discussions on identifying products of interest, creating network breaks and systems to monitor business opportunities.

The Binational Cooperation group highlighted ongoing strategic defense talks, joint military training opportunities.

The Policy group highlighted the offset and RETID legislation and the Space Group discussed about question on how Brazilian firms interact with Alcântara for business opportunities and how concrete partnerships will demonstrate benefits. At the end FIESP-SEC  and CompTIA signed an MOU to foster dialogue and interaction.

All the groups had the opportunity to discuss and organize their action plan according to their needs, goals and priorities and discuss about potential goals and deliverables for the DID 3 in 2019.
